The Generalitat de Catalunya, through the Directorate General of Tourism, has awarded the Innovation Award 2023 to the Tourist Office of La Bisbal d’Empordà for the project Trencadís and Trepara’t 2022. The aim of the project was to highlight the ceramics of La Bisbal through the creation of a collective work involving tourists, making them both actors and connoisseurs of trencadís and trepa, two techniques widely used in ceramics.

The Trencadís et Trepara’t 2022 project

Given the ceramic tradition of La Bisbal d’Empordà and its international importance, the town hall of La Bisbal organizes every year activities related to this discipline to promote it to the greatest number of people. To this end, the project Trencadís and Trepara’ t has been launched in the summer of 2022 for tourists the areas of Torre Maria and Castell-Palau.

In Torre Maria, visitors were encouraged to take part in this collective work by creating a mosaic – on a ceramic pot – with pieces of different colors. At the end of the summer, the jug, with a very interesting chromatic diversity due to the multiplicity of participants, was exhibited in the gardens of Torre Maria. At Castell-Palau, visitors were invited to collaborate using the trepa technique: based on a template, they had the opportunity to decorate 10×10 cm or 15×15 cm tiles with different floral motifs. The versatility and simplicity of the scale made this activity possible. The decorated tiles were then placed on the different planters that adorn Calle de l’Aigüeta, the ceramic street of La Bisbal.

The objective of the Trencadís i Trepara’t 2022 project was to offer a new tourist experience for visitors to the city and to integrate them with the ceramic tradition while improving the aesthetics of the streets with the physical integration of ceramic elements. This creative activity has helped to create a strong memory of the visitors and the promotion they have done on social networks has helped to increase awareness of La Bisbal d’Empordà and its activity.
